SBCA Programs – Connecting Through Events and Gatherings

Our programs focus on strengthening community bonds through engaging events where children, youngsters, and senior citizens participate and celebrate together. Events such as Poila Baishakh (Bengali New Year), Ananda Mela (a food carnival), and Cultural Evenings showcase local talents, while Dhunuchi Dance, Sindoor Khela, and Bijoya Dashami celebrations keep traditional arts alive. We also organize sports meets, competitions, and a joyful winter picnic to encourage connection and collaboration within the community. These programs create opportunities for learning, enjoyment, and fostering deeper relationships among residents.

For Bengalis, Poila Baishakh is a day of cultural reflection, where families start the year with prayers for happiness and success. It is celebrated with cultural performances, traditional music, and delicious Bengali feasts like Panta Bhat, Bhaja, and Mishti. At SBCA, we organize cultural programs, community gatherings, and a festive meal, bringing everyone together to celebrate the spirit of unity and heritage.

The event is filled with laughter, delicious food, and bonding, creating a festive atmosphere that reflects the true spirit of Durga Puja. Dhunuchi Naach

Dhunuchi Naach is one of the most captivating and iconic traditions during Durga Puja, and at SBCA, it holds a special place in our celebrations. This traditional dance involves performing with dhunuchis—clay incense burners filled with burning coconut husk and camphor, creating a mesmerizing display of smoke, rhythm, and devotion. Accompanied by the beats of dhaak (traditional drums), participants sway gracefully to the music, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere. Men, women, and even children from Shantigram participate in this beautiful ritual, dancing in sync with the rhythmic beats as an offering to Goddess Durga. The Dhunuchi Naach at SBCA is not just a performance—it’s a symbol of devotion, joy, and cultural pride, drawing the community together in a vibrant expression of faith.
Shidur Khela

Sindoor Khela is a cherished Bengali tradition celebrated on Vijaya Dashami, marking the conclusion of Durga Puja. At SBCA, we honor this ritual with grace and unity as married women gather to bid a heartfelt farewell to Goddess Durga before her immersion. Women dressed in traditional sarees apply sindoor (vermilion) to the Goddess and then to one another, symbolizing marital bliss, prosperity, and good fortune. The ritual is filled with joy, laughter, and emotional moments, as the community comes together to celebrate the spirit of togetherness and cultural heritage. At SBCA, this beautiful tradition is not just about ritual—it’s a celebration of feminine strength, love, and community bonding.
Bijaya Sammilani

A highlight of the picnic is the traditional feast, where everyone enjoys delicious homemade meals and community-prepared delicacies, sharing stories and laughter around food. At SBCA, the Winter Picnic is more than just a gathering—it’s a celebration of community spirit, creating cherished memories and strengthening bonds among the people of Shantigram.
